Well Service Blowout Prevention - Self Study

This course is aimed at the service rig operators, service rig managers, wellsite supervisors, field foremen, production foremen, and production engineers involved in well killing operations on a service rig. The course consists of four (4) lessons covering the notes on "Well Service Blowout Prevention". Topics include:

  • Safety considerations
  • Initial kill procedures
  • Blowout prevention and related equipment
  • Kick control

  • Upon completion of the self-study course, the student may make arrangements with Enform to write the Well Service Blowout Prevention examination and arrange for the practical component. The practical component involves the function testing of the BOP's and Accumulator systems, and the documentation of this test using the BOP and Closing Unit Inspection sheet from the manual. The practical component can be completed either at the Nisku training facility or in the field by a supervisor with a valid Well Service Blowout Prevention Certificate. Successful completion of the exam results in the student receiving a Well Service Blowout Prevention certificate valid for five years. The cost of the examination is not included in the fee. The Well Service Blowout Prevention Self-Study Course may only be completed if the following two criteria are complied with:
  • The present Well Service Blowout Prevention certificate is valid
  • The present Well Service Blowout Prevention certificate was obtained after attending the full 4 day Well Service Blowout Prevention course

  • The exam challenge, or the completion of the self-study course, may be done up to 90 days prior to the expiry of the certificate. If the exam is successfully passed the new expiry date will be five years beyond the present certification expiry date.
